Algirdas Bagdonavičius is a Lithuanian soloist, his type of voice is a low countertenor, corresponding to contralto.
Vocal qualities. The main vocal qualities are the agility and flexibility, combined with a big power and volume of the voice, a bright, clear and masculine timbre. Those qualities enable him to perform impressively such heroic roles as G.F.Händel’s Orlando, Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo, Didymus, Athamas, A.Vivaldi’s Ruggiero, Ozias, C.Monteverdi’s Ottone and many other. Also his voice suits to perform the Alto parts in sacred music pieces as oratorios, cantatas, masses, etc. Countertenor also performs the music of the XX Century and Contemporary music, as for example comic aria “Olim lacus colueram” from C.Orff’s Carmina burana, which has brought him a big success, or Oberon’s role from the B.Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
